THE CAMPAIGN

The Program provides a metric-based, flexible framework that encourages large institutions to direct their buying power toward five interconnected values: local economies, environmental sustainability, valued workforce, animal welfare and nutrition.

WHAT IS THE GOOD FOOD PURCHASING PROGRAM?

The Good Food Purchasing Program is for food purchases what LEED certification is for environmental building design.

The Program provides a metric-based, flexible framework that encourages large institutions to direct their buying power toward five interconnected values:

  • LOCAL ECONOMIES
  • VALUED WORKFORCE
  • NUTRITION
  • ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
  • ANIMAL WELFARE

The Good Food Purchasing Program is the first procurement model in the country to support these food system values in equal measure.

THE VALUES

The Program provides a flexible framework to support cities in creating benchmarks for procurement around the five values. In many cases, these goals build on existing local momentum to expand good food in the region and work in tandem with ongoing efforts.
